A
committed amateur footballer Lintott was nevertheless one of
the prime movers behind the creation of the Association
Football Players Union and later became
chairman.

A
player with Woking and Southern League Plymouth Argyle
Linnott won his first England amateur cap in 1906 and played
in the 15-0 win over France; the match in which Vivian
Woodward scored eight times.
In
1907 Lintott joined Queens Park Rangers, then still a
Southern League club, and became QPR’s first ever full
England international.
Whilst
with Rangers Linnott won five amateur caps as well as three
full caps and helped Rangers win the Southern League in
1908.
Later
that year Linnott relinquished his amateur status to enable
QPR, who were in financial difficulties, to transfer him to
Football league Division One club Bradford City in return
for a £1000 fee.
In
1916 Linnott unfortunately joined the ranks of footballers
killed in the First World War when he died on the first day
of the battle of the Somme.
