Reginald
Foster was a remarkable character and one of the most
celebrated sportsman of his age.

Foster
holds a unique record in that he is the only man to have
captained England at both football and
cricket.
A
steadfast amateur Reginald Tip Foster, one of seven cricket
playing brothers, was part of the famous Corinthians team of
the early 1900s.
Corinthians
were the best team in the land though they were the second
club of choice for most of their players.
Foster
however listed Corinthians as his primary club and made his
England debut against Wales in 1900.
The
last of his five international appearances, and his only
match as captain, came in 1904; again against
Wales.
Foster
captained the England cricket team in Australia making 287
on his debut but his business commitments limited his time
for sport and he was only 36 when he died from diabetes in
May 1914.
